How do scars form?

For a scar to form, the trauma to the body is usually deep, reaching to the thick bottom layer of the skin, known as the dermis. When the dermis is damaged, the body works quickly to repair it and close the wound to avoid a serious infection. The body sends a fresh supply of collagen (a protein that is naturally found in our skin) to repair the damage. This collagen must work quickly to bind the separated tissues in order to reduce the chance of infections setting in. Unfortunately, the results are the unsightly raised and/or discolored patches that we know as scars.

How do laser scar treatments work?

What is scar removal treatment like?

The laser scar removal procedure lasts about 30 minutes and requires 3-5 sessions to achieve best results.  Some patients may feel discomfort during the treatment.  The team at San Jose Medical Spa can apply a topical anesthetic (optional) to make the procedure more comfortable.  Most patients experience little to no downtime and some may experience common side effects such as temporary redness or swelling.
